Nathan Morcom will pilot one of the two HMO Customer Racing Hyundai i30N entries in the inaugural TCR Australia Series.
The former Super2 and Australian GT driver will team up with the squad run by father Barry Morcom and Dave Cameron.
Morcom becomes the fifth driver confirmed for the new seven-round two litre touring car series joining Tony D’Alberto (Wall Racing – Honda), Jason Bright (TeamTradie – Volkswagen), Chris Pither (Garry Rogers Motorsport – Renault) and Jimmy Vernon (Garry Rogers Motorsport – Alfa Romeo).
The 27-year-old will bring experience to the grid having won the 2016 Australian Endurance Championship prior to two seasons in Super2 with Eggleston Motorsport.
Morcom has recently been behind the wheel of the i30 N when taking part in the Ultimate Speed Comparison at the Rolex Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix last month and a recent test at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“I’m really looking forward to driving the Hyundai i30 N in TCR for HMO Customer Racing in 2019,” said Nathan Morcom.
“It’s a great feeling to be part of the first outfit to race in the all new TCR Series here in Australia.
“The team is looking really good. It’s great to have the two cars here in Australia already, it provides a great platform for our engineers to prepare the cars properly leading into Round 1.
“The team is definitely looking forward to seeing how far we can push the Hyundai i30N in the season opener in May.
“The test session went well at Sydney Motorsport Park. It provided a further insight into the habits of the car, and it was pleasing to see what we put in place was running nicely within the Hyundai set up.”
Morcom is set to conduct a further test in the car at Winton on April 30 before joining a possible 17 car grid at the TCR Australia opener at Sydney Motorsport Park from May 17-19.
