An announcement from Yamaha has long been anticipated, with Quartararo long pinned to make a move to Honda. Rins, meanwhile, admitted in April that he would not be returning.
Quartararo and Yamaha won the world championship together in 2021. Across eight years, the pair won 11 grands prix, took 32 podiums, and 21 pole positions.
Rins joined Yamaha in 2024 but has been unable to net a win or a podium during a turbulent time for the brand
“Fabio and Alex have both played an important role in Yamaha’s MotoGP project, and we are very grateful for their efforts, dedication, and collaboration over the years,” said Yamaha Racing managing director Paolo Pavesio.
“Fabio’s journey with Yamaha spans eight years, during which we have shared both great successes and difficult moments.
“Together, we have grown, celebrated achievements that have shaped our story, and faced challenges that have strengthened us.

“Beyond the results, it is this journey that defines our relationship, and in the end, Fabio will always remain one of the true legends of Yamaha MotoGP.
“Since joining Yamaha in 2024, Alex has brought valuable experience, meaningful insight, and unwavering commitment, playing an important role in the YZR-M1 project’s development.
“While saying goodbye is never easy after years together, we remain fully focused on working as a team to achieve the best possible results until the end of the season.”
Yamaha has struggled to replicate its 2021 success and has not won a grand prix since 2022 at the Sachsenring.
Quartararo took to social media to reflect on his career.
“After eight seasons, the time has come for me to close an important chapter of my career,” Quartararo.
“I want to sincerely thank Yamaha for giving me my chance at the highest level, for believing in me, and for supporting me throughout all these years.
“Together, we shared unforgettable moments: a world championship title, eleven victories, podiums, pole positions, and above all, an incredible human and sporting journey that I will carry with me forever.
“Yamaha is not just a team to me – it is a part of my story, my growth as a rider and as a person.
“Today, I feel it is the right moment to take on a new challenge, to start fresh, and to push myself toward new horizons.
“Thank you for everything. Forever grateful.”
Factory Aprilia star Jorge Martin and Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura are expected to join Yamaha in 2027.
