NASCAR has made adjustments to its 2015 calendar spearheaded by shifting the Southern 500 at Darlington back to its original Labor Day weekend timeslot.
The South Carolina event at NASCAR’s oldest superspeedway will revert back to September 6, a slot it had until shifting to other dates from 2004.
Moving to the early September date means it will now become the penultimate race before the Chase play-offs commence.
“Back to its traditional roots of Labor Day, we anticipate an early afternoon start on Sunday for that event,” NASCAR’s Steve O’Donnell said.
Schedules for Atlanta, Bristol and Darlington have also been adjusted for the season which will begin with the traditional Daytona 500 on February 22 and close with the race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 22.
The Chase remains at the current 10 scheduled tracks and will start on September 20 with Chicagoland conducting the final regular season race on September 12.
Atlanta shifts to March 1 after holding the Labor Day weekend spot since 2009.
Bristol moves to the later date of April 19 which sees it become the eighth points-paying race in 2015 compared to this season when it was number four.
