Nissan’s new motorsport manager says that there is no pressure for the Kelly Racing team to win V8 Supercars races in 2013, but it does expect them to be competitive.
The Kelly Racing team has endured a difficult 2012 V8 season, with its leading drivers Todd and Rick Kelly sitting 15th and 16th in the title chase.
Jeff Fisher, recently appointed the general manager of motorsport for Nissan Australia, says that the team must be competitive in its first year with its all-new Altima race car, and he is confident that the team will be able to deliver on that expectation.
“We’ve been quite clear with the team. We’ve said that we want them to be competitive,” Fisher told Speedcafe.com.
“With a new engine, with a new car and V8 Supercars going into new regulations next year … we’ve told them that we expect them to be competitive.
“With all the work they’ve done, we’re sure they will be. They’ve been very, very thorough, under our watchful eye.
“We want to be competitive in year one, and if there’s some podiums, then that’s some icing on the cake.”
