Kartsport New Zealand has made a wholesale change to its tyre supply for 2024 with the Italian MG tyre being adopted across sprint and superkarting categories in the country.
The MG SH (or MG ‘red’ as it is more commonly known) will be used under a multi-year contract starting in the new year.
Dunlop – under importer Lascom Motorsport – had held the contract for seven years. Kartsport NZ will allow any excess Dunlop DFH’s to be used in a non-competitive environment such as testing or come-and-try scenarios until June 30, 2024. Dunlop wet tyres will be phased out gradually to be replaced by MGs, unable to be used after June 30.
Kartsport New Zealand is yet to make an announcement on supply for KZ2 and DD2 categories.
Australian-based distributor, DPE Kart Superstore will be the importer of the MGs to New Zealand, while Kartsport New Zealand will manage the logistics of distribution through its unique trade registration network.
Trade stores have the freedom to nominate their own pricing on the tyres, however for national level events, they will be controlled by Kartsport NZ, those prices being $395 for senior tyres including GST and $362.41 including GST for Juniors.
