A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of Ryan How after the teenager crashed out of the lead of Saturday’s finale Australian GT race in Barbagallo.
The crash caused an estimated $50,000 worth of damage to the Audi, leaving How, an apprentice mechanic, with an uncertain future.
It was a crippling finale to the weekend which had delivered How his maiden Australian GT victory, making him the youngest winner in the championship’s history.
He then picked up another podium in Race 2 after starting from pole, before staving off a challenge from Peter Major in Race 3 to hold a commanding lead.
“Perth was an incredible experience, one where I was fortunate enough to sample the biggest high of my career,” said How.
“Unfortunately, I also experienced the biggest low point too.
“On Saturday night I was crushed. After a fantastic weekend, to have a brand new brake rotor fail was extremely unexpected.
“The team at Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia did an incredible job, the failure is just one of those things that happens.”
The GoFundMe campaign has targeted $50,000, the money needed for How to repair the car.
Running in the Trophy Class, the next event How would be eligible for is Round 6 of the Australian GT Championship on the streets of the Gold Coast in October.
How currently leads the Trophy Class competition with 217 points after two of four rounds.
