Current STP World of Outlaws Sprintcar Champion, Daryn Pittman has confirmed he will return to Australia this January for the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium.
Pittman – who drives for NASCAR star Kasey Kahne in the US – will team up with Aprile Motorsport for his tilt at Australia’s most prestigious Sprintcar race.
The Danville, Indiana-based racer will join forces with Crew Chief, Brent ‘Glenno’ Inglis for the Classic campaign. The pair tasted great success together under the Titan Garages banner in Australia and also the US when Reeve Kruck’s operation became the first Australian-owned team to complete a full STP World of Outlaws season. Pittman remains the only American to have won World Series Sprintcars in Australia.
His inclusion into the stellar Classic field edges entries towards 70. Pittman will be joined by the man that finished third in the Outlaws points chase this year in Paul McMahan. Further American additions include two time Outlaws Champ, Jason Meyers; NASCAR Nationwide Series campaigner, Brad Sweet; regular Australian visitor, Randy ‘the Hurricane’ Hannagan and Knoxville star, Terry McCarl.
Six time Classic winner Danny Smith will have one of his most competitive rides in recent years in Australia when he takes to the wheel of the Barry Lewis #11. Originally, Brooke Tatnell was meant to take this drive, however the last minute decision by Tim Kaeding to vacate the Krikke Motorsport ‘Hot Rod’ saw Tatnell depart the Lewis team for the familiar KMS surrounds.
Paul Morris, fresh from selling his V8 Supercar Racing Entitlements Contract recently, will take the Supercheap Auto J&J to Victoria for a Classic tilt, along with the best in Australian Sprintcar racing – the likes of Brooke Tatnell, Robbie Farr, perennial home town favourite Max Dumesny and 2012 Classic winner, Ian Loudoun.
Former winner, Garry Brazier and son Jordyn will also be part of the huge field.
For the first time in 2013, the Lucas Oils Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic will be held over three nights from January 24, concluding on Australia Day night.
