Phillip Island’s Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event all but reached a COVID capacity crowd.
A total of 7000 tickets were put on sale for Round 1 of the Motorsport Australia Championships season, 3500 for each of the Saturday and Sunday.
The governing body has reported that a total of 6727 fans, or 96 percent of that figure, attended, effectively a full house under current conditions.
Highlights of the weekend included a Chaz Mostert masterclass in the rain in Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, a sweep of Round 1 of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS season for Garth Tander/Yasser Shahin, and Joey Mawson taking out the Main Event (feature race) in the VHT S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship.
Round 1 of the Motorsport Australia Championships was to have been held on February 19-21, before being rescheduled for this weekend following Victoria’s recent lockdown.
The next round is the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour on the Easter weekend, April 2-4, headlined by the production car enduro and also featuring TCR and GT World Challenge, among other categories.
