Was Lewis Hamilton right to disobey team orders and deliberately back Nico Rosberg into the pack in the Abu Dhabi title decider?

This is the talking point to emerge from a tense season finale that saw Rosberg narrowly hang on to claim a maiden Formula 1 world championship crown.

Rosberg was forced to endure a nervous finish at the Yas Marina Circuit as Mercedes team-mate and title rival Hamilton elected to back him into the clutches of the chasing Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

Having dominated the race from pole position, Hamilton deployed these delaying tactics in a desperate measure to try and swing the title battle in his favour.

The Brit entered the weekend 12 points adrift of Rosberg which required him to win the race with his team-mate outside of the podium places to secure a fourth world crown.

Ultimately the move, that saw Hamilton ignore team instructions, failed as Rosberg held onto second spot behind the three-time world champion.

Hamilton declared after the race that his actions were not ‘dangerous’ or ‘unfair’ given the title was on the line.

However, his tactics have divided the paddock with some labelling the move unsporting, while others believe the strategy was justifiable in the circumstances.
