V8 Supercars’ recently appointed CEO James Warburton has made it clear that he wants to see night and twilight racing return to the V8 Supercars Championship.
While cost and logistical issues have scuttled recent pushes to race under lights, moving away from the traditional Saturday and Sunday afternoon races is being touted as a key change-up ahead of the next round of media rights negotiations.
No venues have yet been earmarked as part of Warburton’s plans, with both permanent and street events the subject of speculation on the subject.
Neither of the last two domestic venues to host night racing in the championship, Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly Eastern Creek) and Calder Park Raceway, are currently on the calendar.
