Australian IndyCar driver Will Power has spoken candidly for the first time following the recent birth of his first child.
Power’s wife Liz gave birth to Beau William Power on December 20 with the arrival giving the pair the ultimate early Christmas gift.
The 2014 IndyCar champion regarded the birth as the most amazing experience of his life.
“This parenting stuff, wow,” Power told Speedcafe.com.
“I can’t believe how hectic it has been.
“We can see a little bit of Liz and a little of me in him. He definitely has my frown when he is hungry.”
“Mate, it is cool, very cool.
“Just sitting there holding him and him looking back up at me.
“I just love it.”
Liz had to return to hospital recently but is reportedly on the road to recovery again.
Just how long it will be before Beau takes to a go-kart remains to be seen.
“I am sure as he sees what is going on around him he will probably want to be involved, but we will leave it up to him,” Power said.
“My dad raced, but he left it up to us on what we wanted to do and never pushed us into anything.
“I won’t be disappointed if he is keen on golf or tennis.”
Beau was named after Liz’s father who died in 2007.
Power’s team owner Roger Penske and his wife Kathy were two of the first people to call after Beau’s arrival.
“Roger and Kathy called a few hours after he was born and we very happy for us.”
Power will be able to help Liz out in the first few weeks of Beau’s life as Team Penske’s first test of 2017 is not scheduled until the second week of February at Phoenix.
