James Golding has been issued a reprimand by stewards for breaches including impeding Scott McLaughlin while the Kiwi was starting a hot lap near the end of Practice 3.
Golding was one of several drivers from the bottom end of pit lane who filed onto the circuit for their final runs as the likes of McLaughlin and DJR Team Penske team-mate Fabian Coulthard were charging back around.
The Boost Mobile Racing driver held up the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang through Doohan Corner, and race control advised a short time later that the incident was under investigation.
The stewards summary reveals that Golding’s reprimand was not only for the impediment, but also for exceeding pit exit track limits and overtaking other cars exiting pit lane.
“The Stewards issued a Reprimand to the Driver of Car #34, James Golding, for a breach of Article 2.1 of Schedule B2 (Careless Driving) for exceeding the Pit Lane Exit track limits and overtaking other Cars exiting Pit Lane and then impeding Car #17, Scott McLaughlin, at Turn 1,” read the report.
McLaughlin had already done enough to top the session anyway, before blitzing the field in Armor All Qualifying for Race 9.
Meanwhile, Jamie Whincup has been fined $500 for speeding in pit lane during the same session.
According to stewards, Car #88 was clocked at 56km/h at pit entry, exceeding the 40km/h limit.
