Jim Richards sealed the 2013 Australian Muscle Car titles at Phillip Island on a day where Les Walmsley and Keith Kassulke shared the race wins.
Despite a difficult weekend, Richards’ consistency throughout the campaign was vital in eclipsing season long rival Bowe, who had won five of eight rounds.
Chevrolet Camaro driver Andrew Miedecke secured third in the standings behind the front-running pair.
In Sunday’s first race, Walmsley faced stiff opposition early on from Tony Edwards but he soon took the lead on lap two.
Edwards’ Holden Torana couldn’t maintain the challenge to the leader, which left Walmsley to record a relatively easy win.
Title contender Bowe was third while championship leader Richards crossed the line in 10th position.
The second race of the day provided plenty of drama but it began with a battle between Eddie Abelnica and Kassulke at the front.
However, the Safety Car was called upon on lap two when Mark King and Tony Karanfilovski collided at high speed on the start/finish straight. Both were lucky to avoid a heavy impact with the concrete wall.
On the restart, Kassulke managed to get the better of Abelnica and he soon opened up a healthy lead. His advantage proved to be key as he took the chequered flag from Abelnica and Edwards.
Behind, Bowe came home in sixth but it was not enough to deny Richards the title as he took the flag in eighth.
The Australian Superbikes were also on the support card at Phillip Island and saw
BMW rider Glenn Allerton surged to another convincing victory.
The encounter was stopped prematurely when Cam Russell suffered a heavy fall at the top of the hill. Once racing resumed, Allerton completed the victory as he finished ahead of Ben Nicolson and Phil Czaj.
