Roger Lago’s Lamborghini Gallardo has recorded the fastest time in practice for the fourth round of the 2012 Australian GT Championship ahead of this weekend’s Shannons Nationals event at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Lago’s co-driver, Kelly Racing Dunlop Series regular David Russell, set the quickest lap of the day in the third and final session.
Lago, however, says he may elect to drive the two 60 minute races solo in order to avoid the 18 second pitstop penalty awarded to entries containing a ‘seeded’ driver.
The Kevin Weeks/Steve Owen Ford GT, Peter Hackett Mercedes SLS, Greg Crick Dodge Viper and Peter Edwards/John Bowe Ferrari 458 completed the top five on combined times.
Elsewhere in the field it was a difficult day for James Brock, who completed just one lap before crashing his recently rebuilt Mercedes SLS. The damage from the front-end impact will see the car take no further part in the weekend.
In the F3 Australian Drivers’ Championship, it was points leader James Winslow who set the fastest time of the day – the Briton proving 0.6s faster in Practice 2 than Tim Macrow.
Macrow topped the earlier session before striking a bird broke the rear-wing of his Astuti Motorsport Dallara F307.
Filling the top five on combined times were Steel Guiliana, Chris Gilmour and Jordan Skinner.
The Kerrick Sports Sedan Series, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, Radical Australia Cup and Swift Racing Series competitors also completed practice today, with Chris Jackson, Kane Rose, Neale Muston and Rob Jarvis lapping fastest of those running timing transponders in each category respectively.
