Sauber has taken the covers off its new C36 Formula 1 car ahead of next week’s first pre-season test at Barcelona.
The Swiss team is the second operation to reveal its 2017 F1 challenger after Williams released images of its all-new FW40.
Built to the new for 2017 regulations, Sauber’s C36 features wider and more intricate front and rear wings mandated by the new rules, which should result in lap times 4-5 seconds faster than last year.
The image also reveals a shark fin engine cover last seen on F1 cars back in 2011.
The car has been unveiled in a striking blue, white and gold livery to commemorate Sauber’s 25 years in motor racing’s top tier, having entered the sport in 1993.
Swede Marcus Ericsson will pilot the C36 this season alongside new signing Pascal Wehrlein, who will miss the first pre-season test from February 27- March 2 due to a back injury.
GP2 star Antonio Giovinazzi is expected to fill in for the German at the test.
Sauber is hoping for a much more successful 2017 now armed with fresh investment from new backer Longbow Finance.
Hampered by financial concerns, the squad scored just two points ending the 2016 season 10th in the Constructors’ standings.
