Michael Schumacher is in hospital after suffering a serious head injury while skiing at Meribel in the French Alps.
Schumacher fell and hit his head on a rock before being airlifted to Moutiers hospital.
The French media are reporting that Schumacher’s condition has since worsened with claims that he has suffered a cerebral haemorrhage.
The seven-times F1 world champion’s manager Sabine Kehm issued an official statement following accident.
“Michael fell on his head when he was on a private skiing trip in the French Alps. He was taken to hospital and is receiving professional medical attention,” the statement said.
“We ask for understanding that we cannot give out continuous information about his health.”
Schumacher retired for the first time in 2006 before making an unsuccessful comeback with Mercedes from 2010-2012.
The German remains the most successful grand prix driver of all-time winning 91 races.
He won his first two titles with Benetton in 1994 and 1995 before leading Ferrari to titles from 2000-2004.
