Scott Pye’s heavily rebuilt Commodore will undergo a specially organised shakedown test at Holden’s iconic proving ground at Lang Lang on Friday.
Holden has handed the Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport team a lifeline after the #80 Commodore was not finished in time to take part in a scheduled group V8 Supercar test at Winton last Monday.
Pye was lucky to escape serious injury when the Commodore crashed head-on into a tyre wall at turn two at the Symmons Plains round. The exact nature of why the brakes failed has not yet been determined.
Data downloaded from the impact measured the energy forces at 28g.
Team owner Lucas Dumbrell is grateful the Commodore will be able to have a shakedown test to determine whether there are any electronic or mechanical bugs before the car is loaded on the transporter for the Perth round from May 3-5.
“Fortunately Holden have graciously let us use Lang Lang on Friday. We will just do very basic stuff. It will be a matter of getting on the brakes and make sure nothing rattles too much,” Dumbrell told Speedcafe.com
“We will really do one or two passes and go over it with a fine tooth comb and we hope to be all wrapped up by lunchtime all going well.
“You can guarantee that if we went to Perth without putting the car on the track there would have been an electrical drama or something was loose.
“The other thing is that it’s important Scott (Pye) gets back behind the wheel just to see if the seating position is the same and he’s happy with everything the way it’s been put back together.”
Nissan Motorsport came to the rescue of the damaged LDM chassis following the Symmons Plains crash and it was still hoped the car would be ready in time for the Winton test.
“It was a lack of parts. The biggest thing is everyone has still been racing while we’ve been repairing it. I don’t think anyone has actually had a great deal of time to actually go back to the factory and make parts. We just didn’t get everything we needed.”
