Supercars is conducting a review of its race formats for next season with CEO Sean Seamer predicting changes in 2020.

The championship is currently finalising next year’s calendar with the series working towards a potential reveal at July’s Watpac Townsville 400.

As previously reported, the schedule could be set to undergo several changes with events at Phillip Island and Winton at risk of missing out in 2020.

The Bend Motorsport Park is in the frame to kick off the Pirtek Enduro Cup with Sandown tipped to host a single-driver SuperSprint round, instead of its 500km enduro.

However, race formats are also up for discussion with changes likely.

Speedcafe.com understands that SuperSprint events could feature a pair of 200km races instead of the 120km Saturday heat followed by a 200km on Sunday model.

“We are looking at different formats for next year,” Seamer told Speedcafe.com.

“I think, what we want to do is capitalise on when we go racing so, getting as much quality into the events as quantity of events.

“What do I mean by that? Do we race a bit longer on a Saturday?

“Right now, for sprint rounds, the Saturday race is quite short.

“Do we look to do more twilight? Do we look to do more night racing?

“When we’re racing, we want to absolutely maximise it and deliver the best possible experience we can for fans that are here at the track and at home.

“So, anything that we can do to improve our output, whilst we’re here, we’re looking at, so yeah, expect some format changes next year.”

The 2020 calendar is expected to take shape following a board meeting on June 25.
