Paul Morris and Luke Searle took the outright victory in the opening round of the Australian Production Car Series at Phillip Island.

The Roadchill Freight Express BMW M135i pair dominated the four hour endurance to take the flag by 23 seconds from the Donut King Audi TTRS piloted by Tony Alford and Stuart Kostera.

The Sherrin Rentals BMW135i of Grant and Iain Sherrin looked set to claim the final place on the podium before drama struck with 20 minutes remaining.

Grant Sherrin suffered a spin at the final corner which left his BMW up against the concrete wall.

Sherrin managed to recover the car back onto the track as a rain shower hit the circuit, but the damage was too substantial to continue.

As a result, the Class C Osborne Motorsport Renault Megane of Colin Osborne and Rick Bates secured the final place on the podium.

Mark Eddy and Dean Grant brought the Network Clothing Audi TTRS home in fourth ahead of the Beric Lynton and Aaron Seton BMW M1.

Class B honours belonged to the Sherrin Rentals BMW of Michael Sherrin and David Russell who finished sixth outright.

Australian Formula 3 Premier Series

Former Australian Formula 3 champion Tim Macrow completed a lights-to-flag victory in the opening F3 race at Phillip Island.

Macrow converted his pole position into the lead which he held throughout despite the race being affected by a rain shower and a Safety Car period.

Chris Anthony followed Macrow home while Team BRM’s Trent Shirvington came through a close battle with Roland Legge to claim the final spot on the podium.

Nathan Kumar brought out the Safety Car when he spun at Honda corner.

Meanwhile, Legge was handed a drive-through penalty when he overlapped Shirvington across the finish line on the restart.

Formula 3 will return to the Phillip Island circuit tomorrow for two more races.

Radical Australia Cup

Peter Paddon will start the second round of the Radical Australia Cup from pole position after a dominant performance in qualifying.

Paddon proved to be more than five seconds quicker than nearest rival John Morriss.

Tony Haggarty was third fastest a further 6.8s adrift with Kim Burke joining him on the second row.

The Radical Australia Cup returns tomorrow for two races, with Race 1 beginning at 0910 local time.
