Zac Soutar has prevailed in Round 2 of Australian Formula Ford after winning the third race at Queensland Raceway.
Synergy Motorsport’s Cody Burcher pipped Sonic Motor Racing Services’ Callum Hedge to pole position by less than eight hundredths of a second but it was the latter who would claim Race 1 by more than six seconds on an extremely wet track.
Less than 1.3s covered the next four of Burcher, CHE Racing Team’s Tom Sargent, Liam McLellan (Synergy), and Soutar at the end of the 10-lap encounter.
Race 2 was a three-way battle for victory for all 12 laps that was resolved with Hedge taking the spoils again, from Soutar and Sargent, while Jake Donaldson (Synergy) was not far away in fourth.
Soutar took the lead at the second corner of Race 3, before Hedge and Sargent came together at Turn 6 on Lap 2.
Hedge retired from the race and would be handed a penalty anyway, while Sargent came home in eighth position in his Mygale.
Soutar won the race by more than two seconds, ahead of Angelo Mouzouris (Sonic) and Lachlan Mineeff (CHE).
The ramifications of the Hedge-Sargent incident saw the latter take the series lead back from the former after losing it during the Queensland Raceway weekend.
Round 3 supports the Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint on May 24-26.
