Speedcafe welcomes Gordon Kirby to the newsroom

Gordon Kirby

Speedcafe.com has continued to extend its international content mix with the addition of a weekly column from legendary US motor racing journalist Gordon Kirby.

A doyen of the industry, Kirby will have a weekly column appear every Tuesday on Speedcafe.com which will examine a current hot topic or a poignant story from memory lane.

The column ‘The Way It is’ will have its own feature section and there is also a back catalogue of previous columns for Speedcafe.com readers to enjoy.

Kirby is one of America’s most renowned auto racing writers and is the United States editor of the British monthly MotorSport, the world’s oldest racing magazine (founded in 1924).

He is also a staff writer for Racemaker Press in Boston and has been the author of many racing books, among them the award-winning 2001 biography of Mario Andretti, ‘A Driving Passion’ and biographies of other Indy champions, including Rick Mears, Bobby Rahal, the Unser family and Emerson Fittipaldi.

Gordon was the American correspondent for the British weekly Autosport for 32 years from 1973-2005 and has covered more than 600 IndyCar races and 800 events of all kinds during the last 40 years.

Kirby’s work has also appeared in Road & Track, AutoWeek and Car & Driver and he was founding editor at large of On-Track, IndyCar Racing and Racer magazines.

“Gordon has been a friend of mine for many years and I am delighted that he has become a part of the Speedcafe.com team,” said  Speedcafe.com founder, Brett “Crusher” Murray.

“Kirby is old school and has plenty of interesting insights and cool stories to tell which will provide something new and different for Speecafe.com fans.

“I have a collection of his books, which all provide a fascinating read. He is a terrific story teller.”

Kirby, attended all of the IndyCar and Champ Car events on Queensland’s Gold Coast, and is delighted to be a part of Speedcafe.com’s international expansion.

“It has been very interesting to see Speedcafe.com develop since ‘Crusher’ created it six or so years ago,” said Kirby.

“It is a first class product which obviously services the Australian fanbase incredibly well, but which has certainly grown in stature and which has earned enormous respect on an international basis.

“I was delighted when approached to have my column as part of the weekly Speedcafe.com content mix and hope that everyone enjoys the read.”

Hollywood star and passionate motorsport competitor, Paul Newman, once said of Kirby – ‘There is a lot of junk out there today. If you want it straight, read Kirby.”

Kirby’s first column for Speedcafe.com which takes on the hottest topic – the state of NASCAR, will appear tomorrow.
