Walkinshaw Andretti United is using a stealth looking spare chassis to conduct an important 2020 engine test on behalf of Supercars at Winton.

As previously reported, the squad is evaluating a new specification engine that features an in-house drive-by-wire throttle system, which has been built in accordance with the championship’s technical package proposal for next year.

Supercars is aiming to cut costs for teams by increasing engine durability and reducing the amount of rebuilds, which is likely to see power units drop approximately 15 horsepower for this to be achieved.

The championship is also investigating the possibility of introducing the electronic drive-by-wire throttle system, although this is not believed to be part of its cost saving drive.

Former Walkinshaw GT3 driver and current TCR Australia pilot John Martin has been enlisted to carry out the test in the team’s spare car alongside the outfit’s Pirtek Enduro Cup driver Jack Perkins.

The team has been joined by rival Supercars outfits at Winton today.

Kelly Racing has all four of its cars in action as it works to understand a new aero package update for its Altimas that will debut at next week’s OTR SuperSprint.

Meanwhile, Tickford Racing has five Mustangs in action for its first in-season test day of the season.

Following its livery reveal, Thomas Randle has jumped aboard the squad’s fifth Mustang that he will drive as a wildcard entry at The Bend Motorsport Park.

The line-up is completed by Macauley Jones who is completing a rookie day in the #21 Team CoolDrive ZB Commodore.
