SUPPORTS: Bressington wins thrilling TCM Trophy race

Adam Bressington

Touring Car Masters

Adam Bressington has been awarded victory following an action packed Paynter Dixon Touring Car Masters Trophy race in Adelaide.

Bressington was second across the line behind Paul Freestone’s Chevrolet Camaro, though a five-second penalty saw Freestone relegated to third post-race.

Freestone had claimed the lead on the penultimate lap after Brad Tilley held top spot for much of the race.

The Ford Falcon driver withstood intense pressure from the Holden Torana of Bruce Williams throughout the first two thirds of the race.

Williams dropped out of contention when Tony Karanfilovski slid his Ford Mustang up the inside at the final turn, colliding with the Torana and in the process eliminating Leo Tobin (Ford Mustang) from proceedings.

Tilley was finally relieved of the lead by Freestone at the start of the penultimate lap, before quickly falling into the clutches of Bressington who also found a way through.

Freestone held the lead to the flag before the penalty dropped him to third, and promoted Jim Pollicina (Holden Torana) to second.

James Koundouris

Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup

James Koundouris dominated the first day of practice for the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup.

The #44 Supabarn driver topped all three of the day’s practice sessions, with his fastest lap coming in the second hit-out of the day, the same session in which he received a two-place grid penalty for contact with Yasser Shahin.

Tony Bates held the second quickest time in each of the three sessions, while Theo Koundouris and Shahin traded times throughout the day.

An incident filled Practice 3 saw a number of minor spins and off track moments, including a trip to the gravel for Yang Xi at Turn 11 which brought out a brief red flag.

Marc Cini was involved in a small incident during Practice 1 with the Absolute Racing GT4 Audi R8 LMS of Cheng Congfu.

The latter did not appear out on track for the rest of the day, however Cini managed to return to the circuit for Practice 2.

The Audi R8 LMS Cup will tackle two qualifying sessions tomorrow before Race 1 on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday.

Stadium Super Trucks

Matthew Brabham has finished fastest in qualifying for the Stadium Super Trucks series.

The third-generation racer jumped to the top of the times in the opening half of the 20 minute session, before improving the benchmark on his last run to ultimately post a 1:44.872s.

Toby Price finished up second quickest after setting a 1:45.464s early on, ahead of Paul Morris in third, Arie Luyendyk Jr, and Gavin Harlien who rounded out the top five.

Robby Gordon showed speed in the opening stages, but struck drama when smoke began pouring out of his truck, forcing him into pit lane for the remainder of qualifying.

Stadium Super Trucks are next out on track on Friday for Race 1 at 1440 local time/1510 AEDT.

Improved Production

Ray Hislop has taken victory in the first Improved Production race.

A battle for the lead unfolded in the latter stages of the race between first placed Hislop and Chris Brown, before Brown ran wide at Turn 11 with two laps to go, allowing Hislop an easy run to the flag.

The former recovered to finish second, while the podium was rounded out by David Waldon.
