
Tom Sykes has splashed his way to the fastest time in qualifying 1 for the World Superbike round at Assen.
The Kawasaki Racing team rider clocked 1:57.190s, to beat Championship leader Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia) by a massive 1.634s .
The pair had earlier dominated the free practice session.
There was no joy for Pata Honda rider Leon Haslam after breaking his leg during a crash in practice.
Haslam was taken to hospital where x-rays confirmed fractures to both his tibia and fibula. He will undergo an operation to have a pin inserted later today.
Eugene Laverty (Aprilia) is third quickest after qualifying ahead of Marco Melandri (BMW) whose team-mate Chaz Davies was 14th.
