The Australian Speedway Championship may be one of the most competitive yet when it begins on January 4 at Loxton Park in Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley.
The event this upcoming summer will almost certainly represent a return to riding for current World Champion, Chris Holder after the horrific injuries he sustained in a British Elite League crash.
Whilst riders are yet to be confirmed, defending champion, Troy Batchelor will be keen to retain his Championship and maintain a position in the World Championship qualifiers.
Darcy Ward, 2013 SGP debutant who missed last year’s Championships due to injury – has yet to win a Senior Australian Title despite his two World Under-21 Championships and Australian Under-21 Championships.
The Series will begin with a qualification meeting on January 3 in Kurri. It will add the final number of riders to the competitors that Motorcycling Australia seed directly into the three events.
After the first round on January 4, the title race heads south to Shepparton’s Undera Park Speedway on January 8, before coming to a conclusion at arguably Australia’s premier Speedway motorcycling venue, Gillman Speedway in Adelaide on January 11.
The Australian Under-16 Individual, Teams and Sidecar Championships will be run at the tight Pinjar Park circuit (adjacent to Barbagallo Raceway) in Perth over the weekend of January 17-19, whilst the Under-21 Australian Championship and Under-16 350cc Championship will be run together at Gillman on January 25.
The Senior Sidecar National Championship will be held at Kurri Kurri across the weekend of March 28-29.
Announcements regarding riders are yet to be made, with MA officials accepting expressions of interest.
