The Australian GT Championship winning McLaren 650S will make a surprise return at this weekend’s Clipsal 500 season opener.
A late change of plans has seen the car drafted back into competition for championship owner Tony Quinn for the three 40 minute races scheduled in Adelaide.
Quinn had originally been slated to drive the Darrell Lea-backed Aston Martin, but he will instead race the car his son Klark Quinn drove to a third Australian GT crown last year.
The Scottish businessman has experience in the car, having shared it with son Klark, 2016 CAMS Australian Endurance Champion Grant Denyer and Highlands Park professional driver Andrew Waite at the Bathurst 12 Hour last month.
Quinn will reach a special milestone this weekend with the 59-year-old set to make 100 Australian GT starts on Sunday.
Track action begins on Thursday with opening practice scheduled for 10:45 local time.
