Former Kelly Racing performance director Tony Dowe has joined Walkinshaw Racing in the role of engineering and development manager.
Dowe will oversee WR's Holden Racing Team and Supercheap Auto Racing V8 Supercars teams, effective immediately.
Yesterday, Kelly Racing confirmed that Dowe had departed its team, effectively replaced by former Walkinshaw employee Craig Spencer, who has spent the past number of years overseas.
Walkinshaw Racing Managing Director Steve Hallam introduced Dowe to the WR staff at its Clayton, Melbourne, headquarters this morning.
“We are delighted Tony has agreed to join Walkinshaw Racing, he has a wealth of successful racing experience and adds considerable strength and depth to our competition and engineering departments,” Hallam said.
Dowe's extensive experience includes Formula 1 roles with Ensign, Brabham, Wolf, Ligier and Arrows, and championship-winning IndyCar experience with Chaparral and Newman-Haas.
He was also Managing Director of Tom Walkinshaw Racing's successful American operations in the late 1980s/early 1990s, running the Jaguar Sportscar programs and earning victories in the prestigious Daytona and Le Mans 24 Hour events.
Walkinshaw Racing's three drivers Garth Tander, James Courtney and Russell Ingall currently sit seventh, 11th and 17th in the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship standings after 17 races.
The team took to Winton yesterday with Tander's car following a disastrous run last time out at Queensland Raceway for the 2007 champion.
The HRT's endurance co-drivers Nick Percat and Cameron McConville shared stints behind the wheel, with the car utilising the tyre bank and test allocation of Percat's #222 Dunlop Series entry.
The next event of the V8 Supercars Championship will be the Sydney Motorsport Park 360 at Eastern Creek.
