A Pirelli wet weather tyre test has been halted after Sebastian Vettel suffered a crash at Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit in Maranello.
Vettel speared off at the first left-bend leading into the hairpin on the opening day of the test for the 2017 Pirelli wet tyres.
While the German was uninjured in the crash where he slammed into the tyre barriers, the damage to the Ferrari test mule meant no further testing could be carried out.
Pirelli was undertaking the session with the SF15-T which had been altered for the purposes of the test that was conducted in artificially-induced conditions where the track’s sprinkler systems were switched on.
Later this month a host of team launches will roll out ahead of the new technical changes for 2017.
The rules shake-up will see cars that are wider and have bigger aero and tyres and more powerful engines that will slash lap times by up to 5s.
