V8 Supercars has ruled out any chance of a new race in Asia being added to the 2013 Championship calendar.

Several venues in Asia have been put forward as possible targets to join V8s including Singapore and Indonesia.

Joining the list of prospective new venues is Macau which has been the subject of widespread talk through the sport.

The Macau street circuit, which hosts the annual Formula 3 race and a round of the World Touring Car Championship, has firmed as the most likely candidate for V8s to find a new home.

But outgoing V8 Supercars executive chairman Tony Cochrane has categorically dismissed any chance of an Asian race for 2013.

“There was a slim chance we were going to get an Asian date up for next year,” Cochrane told Speedcafe.com.

“Well the talk in the marketplace is journos (being) writing about the us going to Mexico and everybody assumes it’s correct.

“Well it’s not. We’ve got a number of foreign destinations now seriously working with us on a date.”

Cochrane did confirm that the three international races next year would be Abu Dhabi, Texas and New Zealand.

The new Circuit Of The Americas circuit at Austin recently confirmed the date of the V8 Supercars round which will be conveniently placed a week before the famed Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte from May 17-19.

“Texas announced the date when it benefitted and suited them,” Cochrane commented.

“Personally we would have preferred it to be announced a month or two earlier but having said that it’s still being announced over six months out.”

“It’s a great date for Australians because it gives them a great package.

“So they can do our weekend and then the following weekend they can double up and do the Indy 500 or the Charlotte race and have 10 days off.”
