The V8 Supercars teams will wait until the Winton round of the championship in August to pay a formal group tribute to Mick Ronke.
The respected Winton Motor Raceway executive passed away last week at age 66 after suffering heart problems.
A public memorial service for Ronke will be held inside the Winton circuit’s Jim Ronke Corporate Centre at 1300 this Tuesday.
With many V8 Supercars team members unable to attend that event, a plan for all personnel to line-up in the pitlane for a minute’s silence during the venue’s August 23-25 event has been hatched.
“Winton was his homeland and the place that he was so passionate about,” Kim Jones, whose Brad Jones Racing team is located down the road from Winton in Albury, told Speedcfe.com.
“Mick was larger than life and respected motorsport from the grass roots right through to the upper echelon of the sport.
“He was one of the few people that could run a club-based V8 Supercar event and the impressive thing was that every time you went back, there was an improvement.
“We’re running a sticker on our cars this weekend to pay respects, but Winton is the only place that we as a category can truly pay tribute to Mick.”
A special mention of Ronke and his contribution to the sport will also be made during the Seven telecast of the Barbagallo event this weekend.
