van der Linde takes AGT pole on Adelaide streets

Kelvin van der Linde

Kelvin van der Linde and Geoff Emery will start from pole position for Race 1 of the Australian GT Championship in Adelaide.

Roger Lago set the pace in Qualifying 2 but could not dislodge the factory Audi driver, with the starting grid set by the fastest lap for each car across the two 20-minute sessions.

van der Linde, driving the #74 Jamec Pem Audi R8, had topped Qualifying 1 by 0.3s from Ash Walsh in the James Koundouris Supabarn Supermarkets Audi R8.

Q2 began as a shootout between Steve McLaughlan (#75 Audi R8) and Koundouris, before Roger Lago (#23 Lamborghini) went fastest.

Koundouris hit back but Lago went top for the rest of Q2 just beyond the halfway mark.

Fraser Ross (#59 McLaren) eventually saw off Peter Major (#14 Lamborghini) in the battle for second, in what was a relatively trouble-free session.

van der Linde/Geoff Emery will lead the field out for Race 1 alongside Walsh/Koundouris, as the Top 7 from Q1 remained unchanged.

Ironically, Lago’s Q2 benchmark would have placed him eighth in the earlier session, where he finished anyway.

Race 1 will be held over 40 minutes from 1035 ACDT (1105 AEDT) on Friday.
