World Rally Championship leader Thierry Neuville is out of Rally Chile after his Hyundai rolled multiple times on the penultimate day.

Neuville had run wide into an embankment during the Maria Las Cruces stage (Special Stage 8), which grabbed his i20 and flung it over violently, before it came to rest on its side.

The Belgian received medical attention at the scene of the crash before being conveyed by helicopter to the Concepción hospital.

According to Hyundai, neither he nor co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul sustained any fractures or injuries.

“Thierry was checked on the spot and required medical assistance,” read a statement, in part, from the team.

“He was taken to the local Concepción hospital by helicopter for detailed examination. At the hospital, it was confirmed that he had suffered no fractures or other injuries.

“Gilsoul was also advised to go to hospital on precautionary grounds.”

The #11 entry, however, will not return this weekend, meaning Neuville is likely to lose the championship lead which he held by 10 points over Sebastien Ogier at the start of Round 6.

Toyota Gazoo’s Ott Tanak heads Citroen’s Ogier by 30.3s with a day remaining in Chile, while Kris Meeke (Toyota Gazoo) continues in 10th after a somewhat less dramatic rollover of his own on the first stage of Saturday running.
