West Australian V8 Supercars fans will have another driver to support during the Trading Post Perth Challenge event on April 29-May 1.
Local car and motor racing enthusiast Brett Stewart has purchased Paul Morris Motorsport’s chassis ‘Hercules’ and will compete in all six remaining rounds of the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series.
The car, built new for the 2007 V8 Series, is currently being repainted black to incorporate Stewart’s own sponsors Interquip (a mining processing equipment company) and Formula Tech Dyno Centre.
Stewart, a saloon car, improved production car and drag racing competitor, is also Western Australia’s Walkinshaw Performance dealer.
Stewart will keep the car based out of Western Australia and share transport costs with fellow WA Fujitsu V8 Series racer Nathan Vince. Stewart will also receive technical support from PMM throughout his debut season.
He says that Morris has given him a terrific opportunity in V8 Supercars.
“Paul has done me an enormous deal. It’s something that I think no one could get. He has really taken me under his wing,” he told Speedcafe.com.
“The car has been totally rebuilt, did the upgrades on the roll cage. What he has done has been unbelievable.”
Stewart says he has expectations of competing in the mid-pack of the competitive Fujitsu Series.
“I just want to be competitive, keep it straight and I’d like to be the fastest rookie driver,” Stewart told Speedcafe.com.
“I’ll do the rest of the season. I missed Clipsal because I’ve only done 50 laps in the car. I know this car is a lot different, but I’m aiming to be mid-pack and we’ll see how it goes.”
Walkinshaw Racing’s Nick Percat currently leads the Fujitsu V8 Series from Tim Blanchard (MW Motorsport) and Scott McLaughlin (Stone Brothers Racing).
