Will Davison says he has learnt some valuable lessons during two tumultuous V8 Supercars Championship events at Barbagallo and Phillip Island.

The Tradingpost FPR driver failed to finish the Saturday race at both events before bouncing back to take victory the following day.

Davison’s win in today’s Race 11 of the championship at Phillip Island has returned the 2009 Bathurst winner to the top of the points standings for the first time since crashing out of the Perth opener.

Stressing the importance of the psychological aspect of all top level sports, Davison says that accepting the ups and downs during the season will be an important factor in his quest for a maiden V8 Supercars Championship crown.

“It’s tested the character,” said Davison of his recent run.

“Certainly I was down and out in Perth on Saturday night but it was a clean sheet of paper on Sunday.

“Last night I was a pretty grumpy old man. I was really angry with yesterday for many reasons. There was a lot of craziness going on in the race. I had a few incidents including a nasty crash with Jamie (Whincup). I just didn’t enjoy it at all.

“I was pretty down on myself and I just wanted to get through today clean to be honest. To do it with a win is just even better.

“We all want to win every race and we want to win the championship, but I think I’ve learnt a couple of good lessons in the last few rounds,” he added.

“There’s going to be some ups and downs, and it’s lovely to bounce back after a couple of downs and keep ourselves well in contention.

“We can go to a couple of weeks off now and then we go to a couple of tracks that have been very kind to FPR in the past.

“We’ve been good at all tracks this year, so we’re looking forward to getting into the next block of races and just continuing the fight.”

The 2012 V8 Supercars Championship will continue at Darwin’s Hidden Valley circuit in four weeks time.
