Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes, who are no longer able to race together in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, took the chance to team-up in a promotional lawn-mover race in Bathurst today.
The duo, who currently sit first and second in the V8 Supercars Championship respectively, proved too good for promotional winners Chris Watson and Steve Hudson in a 10-lap race around a purpose built course.
“What a great start to Bathurst week,” said Lowndes of the latest Vodafone promotion.
“We were a little nervous about racing the lawn mowers so close to the most important race of the year for us.
“Actually getting behind the wheel and having a run around the grass fields of the showgrounds was a great way to start such a big week.”
Whincup also enjoyed the light-hearted racing, but says smart driving will be rewarded when the V8 Supercars hit the Mount Panorama this weekend.
“After the fun we had at the Showgrounds on the Mowers, I'm really keen to get to the mountain and race where it counts,” said Whincup.
“I have a lot of things to keep in mind at Bathurst, the championship is still my main focus so I have to make sure I drive smart throughout the entire weekend.”
