A host of young single seater drivers will take part in this week’s Formula 1 test at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.

Just seven full-time drivers will be in action during the two-day test with teams choosing to offer opportunities to rising stars in the single seater ranks.

Mercedes will split its running between Spanish GP winner Nico Rosberg and test driver Pascal Wehrlein, having elected not to run championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo will sit out the test with the struggling Milton Keynes squad set to hand GP2 driver Pierre Gasly a run in the RB11 on Wednesday.

Gasly will also enjoy a run out in the Toro Rosso on Tuesday before handing the car to Carlos Sainz Jr.

Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will be absent from the test with Ferrari turning to protege Raffaele Marciello and former Sauber driver Esteban Guttierrez.

Marciello will also be in action for Sauber as he shares the C34 with Marcus Ericsson.

GP2 race winner Alex Lynn will have a chance to impress for Williams alongside Felipe Massa.

Meanwhile, McLaren has opted to run Oliver Turvey and Jenson Button, while Lotus will deploy Pastor Maldonado and test driver Jolyon Palmer.

British GP3 driver Nick Yelloly has scored a drive with Force India, which he will share with Mercedes test pilot Wehrlein.

The Manor Marussia squad will not take part in the test.
