The new Holden ZB Commodore is set to be subject to Supercars’ aero homologation program this week.
Supercars has confirmed to Speedcafe.com that its technical team will have up to seven days to carry out the necessary tests required to officially homologate the ZB Commodore’s aero package ahead of its competitive debut next season.
Aero tests, expected to begin today, will be conducted at the RAAF base at East Sale, Victoria with the Triple Eight developed car to be matched against the current Ford Falcon FGX and Nissan Altima Supercars.
The official homologation test is the next crucial stage on the development of the ZB Commodore which has gathered pace in the back half of 2017.
Earlier this month the car completed its first proper track test at Queensland Raceway, where Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes and Shane van Gisbergen all enjoyed spells behind the wheel.
“We’ve obviously done a bit of the testing of it, we’ve got enough adjustments in the car to either make it more or less aero,” Lowndes told Speedcafe.com ahead of homologation test.
“It’s just a matter now of what Supercars want to do and how it’s going to match with these current cars, because obviously we don’t want it any better in a sense – we’d like it but obviously the category won’t.”
Triple Eight is set for a busy off season as it prepares to deliver at least 14 ZB Commodore upgrade kits to Holden Supercars teams ahead of next season.
