Warwick Hutchinson has set the pace on the opening day of the 20th anniversary Historic Leyburn Sprints.
Driving a rotary-powered Van Dieman, the 2012-2013 winner Hutchinson clocked 44.70s over the 1km course in the small hamlet outside Toowoomba.
Dean Tighe was a full second away in second in his Dallara in 45.73s while Michael Von Rappard (Dallara) was next best in 46.79s.
The reigning champion Dean Amos (Gould-Judd) was fourth quickest in 47.51s in front of a bumper crowd.
Triple Australian Gold Star champion Paul Stokell clocked 48.47s in a Radical.
