French manufacturer Alpine has revealed plans to release its A110 in GT4 specification.
It’s the latest automotive marque to look at the platform, with Mercedes-AMG, Audi, Aston Martin, McLaren, Ginetta, BMW, and a host of others already having cars on the market.
GT4 racing has grown substantially in recent years, with it now being the dominant class in British GT while the Australian GT Championship is set to run a GT4 class in 2018.
Set to be developed by Signatech, the Alpine A110 will retain the aluminium chassis, 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and suspension as used in the road car.
However, the engine will receive a number of upgrades, and will be fitted with a sequential gearbox.
Signatech was also responsible for developing the French company’s LMP2 racer and the A110 Cup cars, the latter of which can now be upgraded to GT4-spec.
“Alpine made its name by competing against other car makers and the new A110 GT4 by Signatech will see us return to that arena,” said Michael van der Sande, Alpine’s managing director.
“I’m confident the car will be competitive; our ambition is for it to win races and championships.
“Now, amateur competitors can race with us in the Alpine Cup in a friendly and relaxed environment before upgrading their cars and tackling the highly-competitive GT4 series.”
“Since 1990 Signatech has competed in various international motorsport series in both single-seaters and endurance racing, with enormous success,” added Phillipe Sinault. Signatech team principal.
“We’ve applied all of that experience and expertise to the development of the new A110 GT4 to make it a highly competitive racing car.
“Since teaming up with Alpine in the FIA World Endurance Championship we’ve won races on three continents.
“In 2016 we won the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on our way to winning that year’s championship.
“We look forward to enjoying that same level of success with Alpine in the GT4 category.”
While a handful of cars may appear on grids in the latter part of 2018, it’s expected most customers will take delivery in time for the start of 2019.
