Jaie Robson and Aussie Driver Search will compete in the Dunlop Super2 Series for the first time this weekend in a Matt Stone Racing entry at the Perth SuperSprint.
Robson will line up in the VF Commodore which Todd Hazelwood won last year’s series with, while Aussie Driver Search is set to take on a full Super2 campaign next year for its soon-to-begin Pro Competition winner.
The Sydney driver picked up two race wins in his first Australian GT round at Albert Park in March, having raced in Aussie Racing Cars in 2016 and 2017 after winning an ADS competition.
He is set to test ADS’ FG Falcon Supercar, which ran at Phillip Island in the Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Car Series, today ahead of his first run in the VF at Barbagallo on Friday.
“No testing, no anything, to jump into a car it’s going to be pretty difficult really but I’m quite excited and I can’t thank Kyle Austin (ADS founder) enough for what he’s done for me with Aussie Driver Search,” Robson told Speedcafe.com.
“I’m still a bit shocked on the news. Can’t wait, it’s going to be awesome.
“(I’m) Literally just about to have a test day in the FG and then hop in the VF on Friday.”
Matt Stone, whose team now fields Hazelwood in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and also runs cars in V8 Touring Cars and Paynter Dixon Touring Car Masters, hailed the partnership.
“This will be a great opportunity for any driver wanting to progress into the series and we are proud to be joining forces with Aussie Driver Search,” said Stone.
“Having witnessed the success of the program in Australia, we think it’s a fantastic initiative and cannot wait to see what Jaie can bring to the team this weekend at Perth.”
Austin added, “We give our winners the most competitive drives possible and Matt Stone Racing is the perfect fit for us and our program.
“Being a ‘main game’ team and reigning Super2 champions will allow our winners to flourish.”
Tyler Greenbury had been racing the VF Commodore in question but will not be driving for MSR this weekend.
Round 3 of Super2 begins with two practice sessions on Friday at Barbagallo, while Robson will back up in Australian GT a week later at Sandown.
