Jack Miller will be joined by compatriot Mike Jones on the grid at the Japanese MotoGP at Motegi this weekend.
The rising star has been rushed into the Avintia Ducati to replace mainstay Hector Barbera.
Barbera has been summoned to fill in for the injured Andrea Iannone in the factory Ducati squad, forging the opening for Jones.
Jones finished fifth in the 2016 Australian Superbike Championship after winning the title last year for the factory-supported DesmoSport Ducati squad which is co-owned by the Italian manufacturer’s favourite son Troy Bayliss.
The 22-year-old was testing at Phillip Island ahead of the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix when he received the late call-up.
Jones will run with the #7 as his customary #46 is taken by the inimitable Valentino Rossi.
The Motegi race will see Townsville’s Miller return to the fold for the Marc VDS Honda team after missing two races following a hand injury.
