Australia’s Speedway World Cup team have dominated the Race-Off meeting to book a place in this weekend’s Speedway World Cup Final in Poland with Sweden, Denmark and Poland.
The Aussies took the lead in heat number seven and were not headed for the remainder of the meeting – scoring 51 points at the conclusion of the meeting.
Australia’s top scorer was Troy Batchelor – who walked away with a pleasing 13 points. Jason Crump – who missed last year’s World Cup due to an arm injury sustained at the back end of 2009 shot back to form with 12 points from his rides and top scorer from event one, Chris Holder scored a valuable 11.
The other qualifier from the race off was Sweden who scored 44 points – setting up what will be no doubt a tantalising final at Gorzow, Poland this weekend that includes the host nation, Denmark and the two qualifiers.
Knocked out in the Race-Off were Russia – who finished with 33 points and embarrassingly the United Kingdom who could muster just 30. The Brits were looking for a big performance at this World Cup but fell very short of their target.
The Australian team have sold off space on their race suits to raise money for the Leigh Adams rehabilitation fund and all team members are running Leigh’s Leigh Adams Racing logo on their lower back. Many of Adams’ long term sponsors, such as Owen Bros and Polcopper were very quick to jump aboard the fundraising campaign.
