Bathurst 6 Hour entry list grows to 64

The entry list for the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour has risen to 64 as it approaches the grid density of 72 cars allowed at the mountain track.

In response to requests from potential participants, organisers have updated the vehicle eligibility list to include the Ford Mustang GT which is now permitted in the Invitational class.

“There has been demand for the Ford Mustang to be included on the eligibility list and we know of at least one team advanced in their plans to enter one in the race,” said Event Director James O’Brien.

“Regardless, it is likely the car is going to be a popular addition to Production Car racing in the near future and we expect to see several of them on the grid.

“We are now at a point where teams who are planning to race but have not entered need to seriously consider lodging their official entry as soon as possible because we are close to reaching capacity.”

The updated entry list includes 22 cars in Class A1/A2 and a further 14 in class B1/B2 – the categories expected to provide the outright winner.

The latest outright contender is likely to be the Ford Focus RS to be entered by the defending six-hour champions from this year.

Cars from Audi, BMW, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz and HSV are also likely to be a factor in the outright fight.

Eight cars feature in Class C (Performance) and while Class D (Production) has now reached double figures with 10 entries – six of them the popular Toyota 86 coupe.

Class E includes the factory-supported MG effort, while the Invitational class now stands at 7 cars.

The entry list currently includes 14 different manufacturers, while entries close for the race on March 10, 2017.
