David Brabham’s Patrón Highcroft Racing has dominated its LMP2 class recording the fastest time of the day and night at Petit Le Mans, the final round of the American Le Mans Series at Road Atlanta, in America.
With practice sessions in both day and night and in wet and dry conditions, Brabham and his team mates Simon Pagenaud and Marino Franchitti posted the overall sixth fastest time of the day and lead times in their LMP2 class.
“It was nice to get some laps tonight,” said David Brabham.
“We’ve made some great progress and the car feels really nice.
“We just need to make some little adjustment to make it a bit better.
“If we had to race it right now – then no problem.”
Brabham will drive in tomorrow’s final practice session and qualify the car.
“In qualifying tomorrow I’m probably not expecting to be on pole because the Porsche is always extremely fast here and we still have a weight disadvantage,” said Brabham.
“But qualifying is not going to win us the race and we just have to concentrate on the setup and go and do the best we can.
“I’m not overly concerned where we start on Saturday to be honest.”
Patrón Highcroft Racing is in contention to win a second consecutive drivers, teams and manufacturers championship this weekend.
Should Brabham win, it will be his second consecutive American Le Mans Series Championship.
Following the race, Brabham will fly to Sydney, arriving at 7.30am next Wednesday and drive direct to Bathurst where he will partner Alex Davison at IRWIN Racing.
Brabham won Bathurst in 1998 with his brother Geoff, in the 2 Litre SuperTourer race.
