The last Holden Peter Brock raced is heading to Mount Panorama next weekend for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 as part of commemorations marking 10 years since his death.

The 48-215 Holden that Brock raced at the 2006 Goodwood Revival just before his death will form part of an impressive display of cars being arranged for the biggest motor race in Australia.

While Brock’s Bathurst-winning Toranas and Commodores are no doubt his most famous Holdens, the distinctive green 48-215 puts the punctuation mark on his chapter of racing cars carrying the famous lion badge.

Originally put together by Phil Munday and a team of people including former HDT engine man Ian Tate, the ‘humpy Holden’ won the Spirit of Goodwood trophy presented by Lord Earl of March for the team’s efforts in the annual historic festival of racing.

“Being light cars with six cylinder motors, the ‘humpys’ formed the backbone of Australian racing in the ‘50s and ‘60s,” Brock had said in May, 2006.

“To reinvent an FX racer has been a substantial task as the English regulations are so comprehensive that it means a major $120,000 car preparation for us.

“Anyhow, we’re making it happen. For this exercise, Phil has resurrected a 1953 model, body number 87,336.”

The car now is owned by private collector Terry Dowel, who will also be bringing to Bathurst a handful of other cars, including the SLR/5000 Torana which Brock sealed the 1974 Australian Touring Car Championship.

Brock drove the car in the final two rounds of the ATCC that year at Surfers Paradise and Adelaide International Raceway, helping him claim his first of three ATCC titles.

Also heading to Bathurst from the Dowel collection is a replica of the Austin A30 in which Brock started his motor racing career in the late 1960s.

The original Austin 7 ‘paddock basher’ in which a 12-year-old Brock started driving on the farm roads of his family’s property will join it on display at Mount Panorama.

A new Collector’s Edition magbook covering the histories of all of Peter Brock’s Bathurst race cars will be released during race week at Mount Panorama and on sale at the Brock car display.

Edited by Aaron Noonan, the 144-page soft cover release is $20 and can be pre-ordered here by clicking here.
