Marcos Ambrose will enter the final rounds of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with a complete new crew working on his #9 Ford.
The Richard Petty Motorsports team has decided to switch both the crew chief and the crew beaten Ambrose's #9 car and his RPM team-mate of #43 driver Aric Almirola.
The changes effective immediately, with Mike Ford now calling the shots for Ambrose, and Todd Parrott assigned as the crew chief for Almirola.
Ambrose has enjoyed another strong season, going within a race win of making The Chase. he currently sits 15th, while Almirola runs in 22nd.
According to the team, the move has been made to strengthen the entire RPM organisation and improve the performance level now and into the future.
Richard Petty Motorsports has one win, three poles, three top-five and 10 top-10 finishes this season in the Sprint Cup Series.
“We're continuing to make improvements at Richard Petty Motorsports and we've added talented people to our organization this season,” said Sammy Johns, director of competition.
“This move is to make sure that we are using that talent to the fullest to get the best results for our teams each weekend. We feel this adjustment will strengthen the organisation, allow us to continue to compete for wins and ultimately challenge for championships.”
Ford, Parrott and their teams will be working with their new respective drivers this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.
