Curtain comes down on Carrera Cup season

Davison won the final race of the season

Davison won the final race of the season

Alex Davison has won the final race of the Carrera Cup season, but it was Matt Campbell who took the round and the championship on the streets of the Gold Coast.

Davison got a great jump at the start to head into the first chicane with team-mate Michael Almond and Campbell sitting in behind.

The three leaders checked-out and despite plenty of pressure from Campbell on Almond, the new champ was unable to get by. Davison controlling things out front through to the finish.

Campbell’s victories in the opening two races enough for the overall round victory.

A clean-sweep for Stephen Grove in the Tag Heuer Carrera Challenge rounded his season, but it was Tony Bates who scored the overall championship for the semi-professional drivers.

The Carrera Cup Australia will hand out its awards tonight with crews then focussed on planning for the 2017 season which gets underway on the streets of Adelaide as part of the Clipsal 500 2-5 March.
