Citroen driver Dani Sordo appears close to signing a deal with Hyundai’s i20 World Rally Championship program.
Hyundai previously announced Thierry Neuville as its spearhead driver for 2014 and last week added Juho Hanninen to the second car, which the manufacturer will use to rotate a number of drivers during the season.
Spanish media outlets have reported that Sordo will soon be announced by Hyundai in the shared second i20.
With Hanninen confirmed to compete in the Swedish rally in February, Sordo would likely be given the drive in the season-opening Monte Carlo rally from January 17-19 and become Hyundai’s chosen tarmac specialist.
Sordo had a solid year at Citroen, scoring a maiden win in Rallye Deutschland on his way to fifth in the standings.
It remains unclear how many drivers will share the second car but Australian Chris Atkinson remains in the frame given his current contract with the squad as an official test driver alongside Frenchman Bryan Bouffier.
Citroen announced recently that it will confirm its 2014 line-up on December 16, with the experienced Belgium Francois Duval linked with a return to the Chevron badge.
