Paul Di Resta was a shock first practice quick time man for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix as damp conditions blanketed the Montreal circuit, whilst Fernando Alonso re-established the order in the afternoon’s dry session.
Di Resta set the time on the medium Pirellis, after most of the session was conducted on intermediate rubber.
He edged Jenson Button, Romain Grosjean, Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen.
Daniel Ricciardo finished the session sixth quickest ahead of Nico Rosberg. Mark Webber was tenth in the first session just behind team-mate Sebastian Vettel.
Alonso’s pace in practice two was marginally quicker than Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes-AMG with Grosjean continuing his good form in third place and Mark Webber fourth.
Many of the teams were using prototype rubber from Pirelli in the dry session – being tested with an anticipated rollout at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Nico Rosberg was fifth followed by Felipe Massa, Sebastian Vettel and Adrian Sutil, whilst Daniel Ricciardo ended the session tenth.
Kimi Raikkonen and Sergio Perez ended the session outside the top 10 in 11th and 12th respectively.
