Dumbrell keeps Red Bull fastest in Practice 2

The #1 Red Bull Holden topped Practice 2 with Paul Dumbrell aboard

Paul Dumbrell backed up the morning’s efforts of Jamie Whincup by recording the fastest time in the co-drivers only second practice session at Surfers Paradise.

Consecutive 1:12.15s and 1:12.03s efforts on Dumbrell’s final run proved the quickest two times of the 40 minute hit-out.

The session subsequently ended with the #1 Red Bull Holden being pushed up pitlane having run out of fuel.

“There were no problems with the car, we just ran out of fuel as we got to the pit entry,” Dumbrell confirmed to Speedcafe.com.

“We had a pretty solid run through the session, it was just a matter of getting the driver up to speed and getting used to the kerbs again.”

Steven Johnson had been on top prior to Dumbrell’s efforts.

The Erebus Mercedes eventually fell to third, however, thanks to an even later effort from the Holden Racing Team’s Nick Percat.

Steve Owen, Ryan Briscoe, Luke Youlden, Greg Ritter, Greg Murphy, Steven Richards and Warren Luff completed the top 10.

As was the case in Practice 1, the second session was punctuated by a single red flag for debris.

Warren Luff had deposited the left-side mirror of his Red Bull Holden at the exit of Turn 3 following a brush with the wall at the halfway mark.

An early power steering issue for Daniel Gaunt’s Nissan was the only other notable occurrence in another quiet session dominated by tyre condition.
